We are pleased to announce that on October 1, 2022, Ching Chang and Dimitar Shapov were promoted to Portfolio Managers for Burgundy’s Emerging Markets strategy, succeeding Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager Anne Mette de Place Filippini.

Ching has been a key member of Burgundy’s Emerging Markets team since 2016 and has over 10 years of experience. He has greatly expanded Burgundy’s research knowledge in East Asia, culminating in the creation of the Burgundy China Equity Fund in 2020, which Ching will continue to manage. Dimitar has been a member of Burgundy’s Emerging Markets team since 2020 and has assisted Anne Mette with all Southeast Asia (primarily India) and Eastern Europe portfolio decisions since then. Dimitar has over 10 years of experience and first joined Burgundy in 2017 to focus on U.S. equities. Ching will concentrate most of his research efforts on China and East Asia, and Dimitar will focus on Southeast Asia (primarily India), Latin America, and Eastern Europe.

As Portfolio Managers with shared responsibility, Ching and Dimitar will challenge one another’s ideas and work as one team in the pursuit of building a strong portfolio for our clients. Anne Mette will retain an advisory role – both from the perspective of someone who has managed the strategy for many years and as Chief Investment Officer. She will continue her duties of Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager for Burgundy’s Balanced and Partners’ Global strategies.

Thoughtful transitions are part of prioritizing long-term success as an independent investment manager, and we, at Burgundy, believe this is a great step for the success of the Emerging Markets strategy and Burgundy as a whole.
