On National Philanthropy Day, we would like to honour and celebrate the people and organizations that believe in giving their time, assets, and talents for the betterment of society. Many of you, our clients, demonstrate how much you care about your community through your great generosity, and we applaud you.

The pandemic has only served to increase the needs of our surrounding communities. At the same time, connecting with others has been a challenge for many who want to help. While working remotely, our staff have continued to support causes they care about. In addition to offering personal financial contributions, those serving on boards or committees have also met via Zoom calls and taken part in fundraising efforts, which have been held through creative virtual forums. In-person volunteer efforts have adapted as well. Over the past several years, groups of Burgundy employees in Toronto have volunteered “on-site” to prepare meals for a youth shelter. This past year, as restrictions were in place for indoor gatherings, our staff were undeterred by physical distance. They collaborated to provide the organization with financial contributions, assemble food boxes, and create a recipe book.

People volunteering

Building on the example of our clients, founders, and long history of giving as a firm, Burgundy recently formed the Burgundy Legacy Foundation to serve as a vehicle for supporting the causes that our clients and people care most about. We are excited to share more information with you on this initiative in the coming year.

In the meantime, we continue to take inspiration from the incredible philanthropists in our network and across the world who are committed to building a better future for all. In the spirit of giving, helping to foster future leaders, and honouring National Philanthropy Day, we will be directing a donation to Junior Achievement Canada. JA Canada, via its regional charters, has been inspiring and preparing youth to succeed by teaching them about financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness skills. As long-time supporters of JA Canada, Burgundy staff have volunteered their time to support Junior Achievement programs, including the Dollars with Sense Program, where they visit numerous schools in our community and help empower Grade 7 students to make smart, lifelong financial choices.
